Andrés Martín, double bass
Native of Buenos Aires, Argentina, Andrés Martín is a world-renowned bassist, composer, and producer whose versatile career spans five continents as both a soloist and chamber musician. After serving as the principal bass of the Orquesta de Baja California for over two decades and founding the Contrabajos de Baja California International Bass Festival, Martín has solidified his reputation as a pivotal figure in the international bass community. Now based in the Southwest, he serves as the bassist and composer-in-residence for acclaimed ensembles including The Hutchins Consort and Camarada, where he continues to debut major commissions like the Morgante Violin Concerto and Juan Soldado. His global influence is further cemented by his signature solo double bass designed for Eastman Strings and his work as a D’Addario artist, reflecting a life’s work dedicated to bridging cultures through innovative craftsmanship and evocative, cross-cultural compositions.
Beth Ross-Buckley, flute
Beth Ross-Buckley is the visionary Founder and Artistic Director of Camarada, serving as the creative force behind the ensemble’s innovative multi-sensory performances for over 30 years. A distinguished flutist with degrees from St. Olaf College and the University of Minnesota, she has performed extensively with major West Coast orchestras and spent 25 years as principal flute for the San Diego Chamber Orchestra. Beyond her leadership in San Diego’s chamber music scene, Beth has expanded Camarada’s global footprint, leading acclaimed tours across the United States and South America with the Camarada Tango Quartet and recording their world-reaching album, Tango Bajo el Agua, in Buenos Aires. Her dual passions for musical excellence and visual storytelling continue to guide Camarada to new heights, bridging the gap between evocative performance and the fine arts.
David Buckley, violin
David Buckley has been an integral part of Camarada for all 30 seasons and performs in The Camarada Tango Quartet, with whom he has toured in North and South America. He serves as co-concertmaster of the La Jolla Symphony where he has been a featured soloist on multiple occasions, most recently performing Florence Price's Violin Concerto No. 2. Balancing his passion for music with an impressive medical career, Dr. Buckley received his MD from the University of Minnesota after attending St. Olaf College. He is past president of Radiology Medical Group and has served as Chief of Radiology at Scripps Mercy Hospital. Honored as a top doctor by the San Diego County Medical Society, he is also a member of the Alpha Omega Alpha medical honor society and Phi Bet Kappa. When not performing or practicing medicine David enjoys travel, golf and relaxing by the lake in his home state of Minnesota.
